This year’s MaGIC Accelerator program oversaw applicants spending five minutes each with a panel of influential brands’ representatives, to proudly share their startup mission and vision. The program was set up to enhance social entrepreneurship within its local surroundings, and hence branded as an accelerator. Out of the 23 businesses presented, the Malaysian Babylon Vertical Farms enterprise stood out the most.
Restaurants and hotels in Malaysia have to consistently buy vegetables each day to sustain their franchise. Unfortunately, the process from harvest-to-plate is long and can cause deterioration in the quality of produce. Babylon Vertical firms have nonetheless offered a working solution where restaurants grow their vegetable produce via vertical towers. The unit concept consists of 4 towers, each at 5 feet height, wherein 16 plants are bred within a shorter time span. As of July 2016, thirty six hotels have approached the franchise with 20 paying clients already in line.
